Auctions rake in $8.7m

An Australasian auction platform dedicated to classic, performance and collectible cars says the market is strong after its combined sales last month had a value of A$7.55 million (NZ$8.74m).

Collecting Cars says 105 lots were sold on its website in October. This has taken its year-to-date auction results to 968 sold lots, which is up 46 per cent from the same period last year.

Sale highlights from October include a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda, pictured, fetching $140,500 in New Zealand, while on the other side of the ditch a 2006 Ferrari 575 Superamerica sold for A$545,000 (about NZ$631,000) and a 2021 Porsche 911 GT3 70 Years Porsche Australia Edition made A$500,000 (about NZ$579,000).

The company says a large catalogue of rare Australian heritage number plates also went under the hammer for A$2.5m (NZ$2.9m) last month.
