Auckland claims ports title

Statistics published by the Ministry of Transport (MoT) show Auckland is New Zealand’s best performing container port. The figures have been compiled on the performance of all of the country’s ports that show the city of sails is now New Zealand’s best performer. “We’ve been the fastest port at loading and unloading ships for three years,” says Tony Gibson, chief executive officer. “But our crane rate [how fast an individual crane works] has lagged behind. This quarter, we’ve caught up with Tauranga on that measure. “This result shows the effectiveness of our port’s approach since 2011 to improve performance – and we have plans in place to lift our game further.” Click here to views the MoT’s statistics.
