All-new Kia SUV tipped for NZ

A production version of the Kia SP concept small SUV is currently under consideration by the brand in New Zealand.

The small SUV is expected to launch in Asian markets late 2019, with New Zealand likely receiving the all-new model early next year.

It will be based on the acclaimed Kia SP concept that Kia put on display at the international Auto Expo 2018 motor show last February, which is currently being readied for production as a 2020 model.

“The SUV market continues to be very strong and we have been looking at various options to expand our range in New Zealand to support our best-selling Sportage,” says Todd McDonald, general manager of Kia Motors New Zealand.

“We are very excited by the prospect of having an SUV to offer in the segment below the Sportage and its arrival is being eagerly anticipated.”

Details of the still-to-be-named production version of the SP remains under wraps, along with information on the likely engine and transmission options.
