Agency bolsters inspections

The NZTA has announced it now has a certification officer based in Japan to perform vehicle re-inspection audits at the sites of border-inspection organisations (BIOs).
The agency says its employee, who took up the role in June, will carry out audits of all NZTA-appointed BIOs in Japan to check their compliance with the vehicle inspection requirements manual (VIRM).
“This will align our Japanese operations to what we do in New Zealand, resulting in a consistent approach to regulating border-inspection organisation appointments in both countries,” adds the NZTA.
“It will also help to prevent incorrect vehicle flagging, which will mean fewer vehicles will need repair certification in New Zealand.”
