Acceleration v beer bellies
An advert for the diesel-powered Volkswagen Golf GTD takes a humorous approach by showing how the vehicle’s powerful acceleration affects people’s beer bellies.
It shows a driver and passenger enjoying the rapid pace of the car but as they slow down their paunches slide back into view.
The “Bellies” commercial was created by Red Urban, an advertising agency based in Toronto, Canada, and released in 2013.
“Volkswagen Germany came to us with a problem. They had this new, diesel-powered Golf GTD, and needed people to know just how powerful its acceleration really was,” the agency says.
“Our solution? Use beer bellies to highlight the effects of said acceleration. All of which got the message across quite convincingly, if we may say so ourselves.”
