Leapmotor’s dual-motor C10 all-wheel-drive EV is now on sale in New Zealand after its global debut at the Zurich Motor Show last month.

It’s available from $64,990 plus on-road costs at Armstrong’s dealership locations in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

It is the marque’s first car to feature 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling rapid DC charging to a peak power level of 180kW and better thermal efficiency of the 81.9kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery.

This results in a rapid charge from 30-80 per cent in just 22 minutes. The improved charging efficiency and thermally stable chemistry is possible with no pre-heating, resulting in longer life cycle, less stress across key components and “excellent” usable energy compared with other battery types.

The C10 AWD’s high-voltage motors operate more efficiently at high speeds, improving acceleration and power response. The lightweight design of the 800v system is class-leading at 75kg and supports higher regenerative braking to further support its 437km WLTP range.

With a peak power of almost 440kW and maximum torque of 720Nm, it accelerates from 0-100kph in four seconds.

The AI smart electric-drive motor, with lifecycle intelligent upgrades, enables electric-drive health monitoring and cloud-based diagnostics. There’s also deep learning of user behaviour to continuously enhance software strategies.

When it comes to over-the-air updates, these deliver a “more refined experience” for the driver with enhancements made to areas such as driver distraction and fatigue monitoring.

An update introduced 360-degree dashcam functionality using the EV’s surround-view cameras to record while driving, while another expanded the range of voice-recognition functionality accessible via the infotainment system. Digital key sharing is possible courtesy of a smartphone app.

The SUV has a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, 10.25-inch digital cluster and 12-speaker sound system. There’s a panoramic glass roof and up to 1,410 litres of cargo space. The interior design is minimalistic with a focus on clean lines and reduction in physical buttons.

Brian Carr, general manager of sales at Auto Distributors, says: “The latest addition to the Leapmotor electric SUV line-up is engineered for drivers who value power, versatility and intelligent control.

“The C10 AWD redefines electric mobility by offering a seamless blend of high-performance driving and precision handling. It’s a bold statement of next-generation transportation that’s built to take you further, charge faster and go anywhere with confidence.”
