Kiwis to help out Aussies

Posted on 23 July, 2014

UPDATED: The recently formed Australian Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (AIMVIA) has contracted its nearest equivalent organisation in New Zealand to provide some services over the next two years. The association across the Tasman has formed a working relationship with the IMVIA here, which will see the Kiwis provide governance assistance in the form of two directors. The other aspect is operational services, with the AIMVIA being assisted by some IMVIA resources. READ: Australian industry group forms David Vinsen, chief executive of the IMVIA, told Autofile Online: “The IMVIA’s agreement with the AIMVIA formalises our working relationship, and it has contracted us to provide services and resources. This will hopefully give them grunt to help them get off the ground. I have been appointed CEO on an interim basis to act as spokesman for the AIMVIA and to provide some leadership.” The overall idea is for the Kiwi experience to assist the industry there by harnessing the IMVIA’s experience, contacts and intellectual property from the used imports industry here in New Zealand. Car making in Australia will end over the few years with Holden, Ford and Toyota pulling the plug on local manufacturing, while the government is looking into border restrictions limiting the wholesale importation of used vehicles into the country.
