Vector's EV app out

Posted on 27 October, 2016

The first electric vehicle app developed in New Zealand is now available at the Apple Store and Google Play. Simon Mackenzie, Vector’s chief executive, says the free charging app will help ease range anxiety by providing real time information that drivers can easily access. While the app is currently designed to locate Vector’s charger stations across Auckland, it will eventually be expanded to include other charging stations across the country. Vector welcomes owners of other charging stations to contact them with details so their chargers can be included in the app. The app also allows drivers to see whether the charger is a rapid or standard charger, and whether it is compatible with the vehicle’s port type. Mackenzie says the app provides information such as the status of Vector’s rapid chargers, so that drivers know whether they are in use before getting there. He adds that knowing whether a charging station is in the area will help everyone feel more comfortable travelling longer distances, knowing they can charge their vehicles along the way. “We want to make it as easy as possible so that people choose to drive EVs over traditional fossil fuelled vehicles.”
