Nissan joins airbag recall

Nissan is the latest new vehicle distributor in New Zealand to issue recalls for cars affected by the latest problems with airbag systems supplied by Takata. It is calling back 10,300 units sold in this country, which brings the combined total for Nissan, Honda and Toyota to about 52,700 – and more marques are expected to also issue recalls. Nissan spokesman Peter Fadeyev says models ranging from 2004-07 are affected by the call-back, although details of what models are affected are yet to be confirmed. The company will contact customers as soon as parts and more information is available with remedial work carried out for free. Meanwhile, Toyota has not recalled the Avensis that the marque in Australia called back on Thursday afternoon. It notes the Avensis sold in New Zealand is a different one and made in the UK. Honda’s latest recall affects New Zealand-new Civics, Jazzes, Accord Euros and CR-Vs ranging between 2002 and 2008, which have potentially been fitted with faulty driver or front-seat passenger airbags. Mazda New Zealand confirms it is waiting to hear from its head office in Japan to see if it has to recall any more vehicles because of faulty Takata systems in addition to those called back in the past.
