Nissan issues recall

More than 52,000 Nissan vehicles are being recalled due to faulty airbags made by Japan-based Takata. The marque’s recall is among nearly eight million others made by 10 automakers, mainly in southern US states with high humidity. It affects the Infiniti FX35 and FX45 made from 2003-05, Infiniti I35 from 2003 and 2004, and Infiniti M35 and M45 from 2006. Also affected are Pathfinders from 2003-04, and Nissan Sentras from 2004 to 2006. In total, 52,738 units are involved. Humidity can cause the airbag propellant to burn too fast and potentially blow apart metal canisters. Affected include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Saipan, Guam and American Samoa.
