McRae, who expected Rod Millen to be his rival for the title, says: “I did get beaten by a Millen, but it was the wrong one”. He adds his Vantage Motorsport Subaru was “extremely quick, it’s a bit of a handful”. Both McRae and Rhys Millen clocked last weekend’s fastest time of 48.96 seconds. Craig Vincent, of Vantage Motorsport, says the team is “very happy with the result”. He adds: “Alister did a fantastic job. We still posted the fastest-equal time for the weekend, which creates a challenge to come back again next time.” Subaru of NZ brand ambassador, Ben Hunt, also made the shoot-out and clocked his fastest time of the event at 52.35 seconds in a 1999 Subaru WRX STi Coupe. The Leadfoot Festival took place over Waitangi Weekend in the Coromandel. The event sees drivers from across the world compete on Rod Millen’s 1.6km driveway.
