Recalls made by Toyota

Between 30 and 40 thousand vehicles vehicles made by Toyota and on New Zealand’s roads are affected by a series of precautionary global recalls issued today. Spencer Morris, Toyota NZ’s general manager of customer services, stresses there have been no reported accidents or incidents related to any of the recalls globally due to recall-related conditions. Three Toyota Motor Corporation recalls affect cars sold as-new here and one affects vehicles imported by third parties. One further recall is unlikely to affect vehicles here because it applies to 2013 Ractis models sold in Hong Kong. Toyota NZ will contact the owner of every cars affected to make free remedial arrangements and this extends to imports.

New vehicle recall: spiral cables

Certain RAV4, Prado and Hilux models made between June 2004 and December 2010 and sold as-new here are affected by a spiral cable recall. This recall affects 200,000 vehicles in Oceania. Toyota NZ is working to identify every unit here affected. The spiral cable is installed in the steering column to connect steering wheel-mounted electrical systems.

New vehicle recall: seat rails

Vehicles sold New Zealand-new and affected by a seat rail recall are 7,506 units of the Yaris produced between January 2005 and August 2010. The springs used in the seat-locking mechanism may break if the seat is adjusted frequently. This also affects 6,153 imported Vitz, Ist, Belta and Ractis vehicles.

New vehicle recall: steering column bracket

Toyota NZ says 100 Yaris vehicles with tilt/telescopic steering adjustment, manufactured between September 2005 and February 2009, are affected – as well as 1,037 used imported models of the Ractis and Ist.

Imported vehicle recalls: drain outlet

There are 993 imported Ractis vehicles affected by a recall relating to the possible clogging of drain outlets in the cowl-top reinforcement directly under the wiper motor mounting area.

Ractis sold in Hong Kong: Engine starter recall

There are 382 Ractis vehicles made in 2013 and sold new in Hong Kong that are subject to an engine starter recall. It’s unlikely any have been imported here, but Toyota NZ is checking.
