Electric bikes for staff

Posted on 30 November, 2015

The NZTA is encouraging its employees to use sustainable transport after ordering three electric bikes to be used in Auckland. Jace Hobb, owner of Electric Bike Hub owner in Nelson, is thrilled to be awarded the contract to supply the pilot fleet for agency. “We are reading reports from other parts of the world showing incredible investments in cycleways, and the beneficial effects of cycling and saving time in inter-city commutes,” he says. Hobbs says his bikes are sought after as they require minimal upkeep with the gears only needing adjusting once every two years. “An individual might just happen to like any bike whereas a council will have to consider long-term maintenance.” Ernst Zollner, the NZTA’s regional director for Auckland, says: “We are investing hundreds of millions of dollars on an unprecedented programme of new cycling projects, and it makes good sense to encourage our own staff to get on their bike. We also see electric bikes as a great way to put ourselves in the shoes of the public as we work to deliver high-quality cycling infrastructure throughout the country.”
