BB5 sale the first on Vero

Posted on 20 October, 2016

A 1964 Aston Martin DB5 is the first ever classic car sale completed via social media, when it sold for NZ$1.4 million on the next-generation platform Vero. The sale by international auctioneers Coys also marked the largest known transaction made via Apple Pay. The DB5 is one of the highly sought-after right-hand-drive silver birch models with red leather trim. The model underwent a full restoration, including an engine rebuild and suspension and gearbox overhaul, after spending 20 years in dry storage. The buyer bought the model directly from the Coys profile after seeing it at the Mondial de L’Automobile - Paris Motor Show. Coys chief executive Chris Routledge says: “The proud new owner saw the DB5 at the Paris Motor Show, he was overjoyed to see the car of his dreams and didn’t want to lose it… he was keen to quickly get in front of the queue, so a few days later he hit the ‘Buy Now’ button on Vero to guarantee the purchase, leaving two other collectors disappointed in his wake.” Other classic cars available for instant purchase on the auctioneer’s Vero profile include a NZ$679,000 Ferrari Dino 246 once owned by Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant and a NZ$500,000 Bentley Continental S2.
