There was a slight increase in used commercials last month. In total, 1,009 units were sold in March – a 3.5 per cent increase on March 2017’s total when 975 units were registered in New Zealand.

Year to date, it appears the used-commercial sector is on a similar trajectory as 2018, with 2,946 units registered – a one-unit difference compared with the first three months of 2018.

Toyota remained on top with 499 registrations for a market share of 49.5 per cent. Its Hiace claimed the biggest market share of all models with 24.6 per cent thanks to 390 registrations.

Nissan came second on the marques ladder with 218 units for a market share of 21.6 per cent, while Mazda finished third with 50 units and five per cent.

The Nissan Caravan was runner-up in the models’ chart with 60 sales for a 6.3 per cent share of the overall total, while its NV200 came third with 56 registrations for a 5.6 per cent market share.

Most regions recorded losses last month compared with March 2018. Thames led the way with a 50 per cent fall – from 16 registrations in the same month of last year to eight last month. It was followed by New Plymouth and Blenheim, which showed decreases of 47.6 and 42.9 per cent respectively.

Despite this, Napier had a big month – up 84.6 per cent from 13 registrations in March 2018 to 24 last month. Timaru also performed well – up 57.1 per cent.
