Top motor show cancelled again
The Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), which was due to take place in Switzerland in February, has been cancelled for the fourth year running.
Organisers say they will now focus instead on a complementary event, the Geneva International Motor Show Qatar, which is set to be held in Doha in November 2023.
Maurice Turettini, president of the foundation behind the events, says: “Due to the uncertainties in the global economy and geopolitics, as well as the risks related to the development of the pandemic, the organisers have decided to focus exclusively on the planning of the event in Doha in 2023.
“We have done everything possible to ensure that we could host GIMS 2023 in Geneva in February. The enhanced event format and project had been very well received. But in the end, the risks overweighed the opportunities”
Officials add that “in these uncertain times”, many marques are not in a position to commit to participating in a show in Europe in the northern hemisphere winter.
The show in Geneva is normally an annual event but has been cancelled over the past three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first edition of the Qatar event will be based at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre and it is scheduled to take place every two years.
