Auction house Webb’s is offering one of the most distinguished personal collections of classic cars to be auctioned in New Zealand at the Southward Car Museum in Paraparaumu.

The Roy Savage Collection of Classic Cars – Part II features some of the most prestigious marques to ever come to market in this country. Ranging from British classics to mainland European sports cars, the sale covers all segments of the market from entry-level enthusiasts to seasoned collectors.

The collection

Celebrated as New Zealand’s premier collector car auction, the second part of Roy Savage’s distinguished collection will feature 18 vehicles.

One of the stars of the show is a Rolls-Royce that spans a 70-year timeline. This is arguably one of the largest and rarest opportunities not just in Australasia, but indeed globally to purchase such a rare Rolls-Royce.

Other highlights include a 1955 Allard Palm Beach Mark 1 convertible, a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL manual and a 1953 Bentley R-Type. There are also two  Series BMWs, which were both used a prime transport by the Savage family, and a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL bearing the rare hard and soft-top combination.

There’s also a 1973 Rover 3500. Used daily by Savage, this car was a formative vehicle in his life being its sole keeper since its delivery to him in Blenheim in 1973. It has only 62,623km on the clock.

First part of the collection achieved sales of $1.5m

This is the second time the renowned Wellington businessman’s collection has gone under the hammer.

In December 2016, Webb’s offered the first part of the collection with all 30 vehicles selling and achieving sales of almost $1.5 million. Multiple auction records were set during the auction, including the 1955 Jaguar XK140, which went for $258,750.

The auction will take place at the Southward Car Museum, one hour north of Wellington, on March 17 at 2pm. Prior to the auction, vehicles can be viewed at the museum on March 14 from 2-4pm, March 16 from 10am-4pm and March 17 from 9-11am. To view the full catalogue of 18 cars, click here. <www.webbs.co.nz>
