Registrations of new vehicles in New Zealand last month grew by two per cent, or by 217 units, when stacked against the same month in 2018.

David Crawford, chief executive officer, says: “April 2019 registration figures of 10,640 vehicles were up two per cent on the same month in 2018, continuing the up and down monthly trend for 2019 year to date."

"The market to the end of April is down 2.5 per cent on the first four months of 2018 notwithstanding the month of April was the strongest on record, by a mere 5 units over April 2017.

"The total registrations of passenger and SUVs for April 2019 were down one per cent, or by 70 units, on 2018 volumes, while commercial vehicles were up eight per cent compared to the April 2018.

"It was the strongest April month on record for sales of light and heavy commercial vehicles and takes the year to date registrations of commercial vehicles to 0.7 per cent ahead of the same period in 2018.

“The strong outturn for April 2019 was positive in tight market conditions."
