Nissan's new Leaf e+ revealed

Nissan's all-new Leaf e+, which was announced at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas, offers a new powertrain with additional power and range.

The “e+” refers to the increased energy density of the model’s battery pack and the higher output of its powertrain.

The new Leaf offers more than 40 per cent additional range of up to 458 km, a high-capacity battery and motor to produce 160kW of power and 340Nm of torque and the top speed increases by 10 per cent to almost 160kph.

This latest battery can also be replenished by 100kW fast chargers, meaning a 40 minute top up to 80 per cent, much the same as the current model using a 50kW fast charger.

To match the Nissan Leaf e+’s additional power and increased mass, Nissan has reprogrammed the e-Pedal software for smoother operation and enhanced pedal feedback, especially for operation in reverse, and for smoother and more rapid deceleration, making it easier to stop the car using e-Pedal, even when backing up.

Every Nissan Leaf e+ is available with advanced safety technologies including intelligent lane intervention, lane departure warning, intelligent emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and intelligent around view monitor with moving object detection.

The Nissan Leaf e+ is scheduled to join the Nissan Leaf at Nissan dealerships in Japan in late January 2019. US sales are expected to begin in the spring of 2019, and European sales will commence in mid-2019.

Pricing of the Nissan Leaf e+ in Japan starts at ¥4,162,320 (NZ$56,198).

Information on New Zealand's release date is expected mid-year.
