McLaughlin nails second win of season

Scott McLaughlin clinched the second win of his IndyCar career after triumphing in the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, with the victory extra special as his parents were in the crowd watching.

The New Zealander, pictured, started second on the grid and took the chequered flag for Team Penske at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, which keeps him seventh in the drivers’ championship.

It was also McLaughlin’s second win of this season’s NTT IndyCar Series after he captured the opening race in St Petersburg, Florida

His parents, Wayne and Diane McLaughlin, were at the race on July 4 (NZ time) to cheer him on. The racer had not seen his family for 31 months until May this year because of travel restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic, but they are now holidaying in the US and taking in nine rounds of IndyCar action.

Fellow Kiwi Scott Dixon finished fifth at Mid-Ohio and is sixth in the overall standings – only two points ahead of McLaughlin.

The 2022 series has now reached its halfway point and the next race is the Honda Indy 200 in Toronto on July 18 (NZ time).
