Luxury marque going electric

Maserati plans to offer all-electric versions of each of its luxury models by 2025 and have a line-up of only electric vehicles (EVs) just five years later.

Executives from the Italian marque announced the plans as they revealed EVs will be designated Folgore, which is Italian for lightning.

The new Gran Turismo, pictured, will be the first in the electric range and is set to debut in 2023. It will have a three-motor powertrain that delivers more than 1,200hp, a 0-100kph time of under three seconds and a top speed of about 300kph.

Technology for the vehicle is also being inspired by Maserati’s know-how from the Formula E championship.

An electric version of the Grecale SUV is also due to hit the market next year, followed by EVs for the MC20 sports car, Levante SUV and Quattroporte sedan by 2025.

The Folgore range is part of a larger electrification push by Maserati’s parent company Stellantis called “Dare Forward 2030”.
