Kia stops production as Covid-19 hits staff

Kia Motors has suspended production at all its factories near Seoul after eight of its workers tested positive for Covid-19, according to a union official.

The sites affected produce Kia’s Carnival SUV and its Rio small car, among mother models, and manufacturing came to a halt late on September 16.

South Korea has started to ease tough social distancing rules in the greater Seoul area and on September 14 reported its lowest daily virus tally – 109 – in about a month. The country’s total number of coronavirus cases has passed 22,200 with more than 360 deaths.

Kia has been contacted for comment, reports Reuters.
