Hyundai’s KONA reaches new heights

Hyundai has set a new world record after one of its KONA Electric SUVs drove to the highest altitude achieved in an electric car.

The vehicle climbed to an altitude of 5,731 metres to Sawula Pass in Tibet, which broke the previous record of 5,715.28m.

S.S. Kim, chief executive of Hyundai Motor India, says claiming the Guinness World Record is a “proud moment for everyone and a remarkable feat”.

“KONA Electric has proved its mettle in the world’s toughest terrains without compromising its performance,” he adds. “It is the first long-range SUV with 452km/charge … To avoid any range anxiety, customers will be provided with two chargers along with the car – a portable charger and an AC wall box charger.”

During the record-breaking expedition, the KONA Electric had to battle low temperatures, snowfall and icy conditions, and was charged overnight with the standard portable charger that comes with the vehicle.
