Holden reveals new diesel models

Holden has released details of the first-ever diesel Commodore and will be launching it alongside the first diesel version of the Equinox, its new medium-sized SUV.

The two models build on technological advancements introduced with the recent launch of petrol-powered engine variants.

“We anticipate the new diesel Commodore, available in liftback and sportwagon bodystyles, will find particular favour with fleet operators,” says Ina Economopoulos, product marketing manager.

It provides 400Nm of torque available from 1,750rpm delivered via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

“Fuel efficiency is best compared against the same cubic capacity two-litre four-cylinder petrol Commodore LT liftback, which sees the advantage go the diesel by almost 2l/100km.

The Equinox diesel is more family-oriented across the three-model range, all of which feature a 1.6-litre engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Like the new diesel Commodore, the diesel Equinox features fuel-saving automatic stop/-start as standard, and numerous passive and active safety aids, which contribute to its five-star ANCAP rating.

The Equinox starts at $46,990 for the LT, the LTZ is available at $55,900 and the range-topping LTZ-V is $59,990.The LT is two-wheel drive, whereas the LTZ and LTZ-V are all-wheel drive.

The vehicles offer features including heated front seats, embedded sat-nav, remote engine start and front-park assist as standard, as well as one-touch folding rear seats and four USB charge points throughout.

The LTZ steps up specification with 19-inch alloys, LED headlamps and tail-lamps, hands-free power tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, wireless phone charging, front and rear-seat heating topped off with a Bose audio system.

Both the new Equinox and Commodore now come with three years of free certified servicing, three years roadside assistance and three years warranty.

The diesel Commodore starts at $48,990 for the Liftback model and the Sportwagon is available at $50,900.
