There was a lift in retail card spending in June, with spending rising across all industries, including the vehicle industry, according to Stats NZ.

When adjusted for seasonal effects, retail card spending rose 0.8 per cent in June 2018 compared with May 2018. 

Spending in the vehicle industry increased by $600,000 or 0.3 per cent in June. This follows a 1.6 per cent fall in May. 

The largest movement was in consumables, including grocery and liquor retailing, where spending was up $11 million or 0.6 per cent. 

There were however mixed results for retail card spending for the June 2018 quarter, with three industries up and three industries down. 

The vehicle industry was up $2.7 million or 0.5 per cent in the June quarter, following a 1.1 per cent rise in the March 2018 quarter. 

Overall, retail card spending totalled $15 billion in the June 2018 quarter, which was up $518 million or 3.5 per cent from the June 2017 quarter.
