Better month for used cars

Better month for used cars

There were 12,100 registrations of used imported passenger vehicles in October – down by 14.3 per cent compared to the same month last year. However, used imported cars were up 4.9 per cent on September 2018’s total of 11,533. 

Last month’s result brought the year-to-date total to 125,420 – a decrease of 8.2 per cent or 11,208 units compared to the same 10-month period in 2017.

The majority of New Zealand’s regions recorded falls in sales of used imported passenger vehicles during October compared with the same month last year. 

Out of the main centres, Auckland – the country’s biggest region for sales – saw a 15.5 per cent decrease from 6,618 to 5,590 registrations. Christchurch fell by 18 per cent from 1,932 units in October 2017 to 1,585 units last month. It was followed by Wellington, which recorded a drop of 13.9 per cent from 1,099 units to 946 units.

Despite the decrease in sales across the country, Oamaru and Timaru enjoyed increases of 66.7 per cent and 10.9 per cent respectively.
