XC90 to be safest car?

Posted on 18 August, 2014

Volvo is aiming to make its 2015 XC90 one of the safest cars on the market with new features, such as run-off road protection and auto breaking at intersections. The developments follow the marque’s accident research team investigating more than 43,400 crashes between 1970 and 2014. “Committing to safety is about finding out how and why accidents and injuries occur, and then developing the technology to prevent them,” says Lotta Jakobsson, Volvo’s senior safety specialist. The 2015 XC90 comes with a system that keeps the car from going off the road. Volvo says half of all traffic fatalities in the US are road-departure accidents. There’s a new system that tightens seatbelts and has an energy-absorbing seat for spine protection. It will also guide you through the process of crashing into a ditch as gently as possible. The XC90 is also the first car in the world with automatic braking if the driver turns in front of an oncoming car. There’s also rear-impact detection, protective seats, safety-belt pre-tensioners in all three rows, blind-spot coverage, and radar-based automatic braking and steering functions that can come handy in city traffic.
