WRX takes out award

Posted on 20 November, 2014

The all-new Subaru WRX has been named performance car of the year in the New Zealand Autocar magazine awards. The four-door sedan – available with a six-speed manual or eight-speed transmission – beat go-fast models from Germany, England, France and Australia to take the title. “The new and improved model proves to be greater value being cheaper and yet offering extras previously unavailable on the WRX making it more of an all-rounder,” says the magazine. “It extracts more go from a smaller engine and travels further on each litre. The new WRX delivers enhanced dynamics and feels custom-tuned to our roads. It’s family-friendly, safe and affordable – and you can get an automatic version now too.” In its WRX road test, Autocar praised the suspension’s suitability to New Zealand’s undulating, coarse and chipped sealed roads combined with the sharper steering and flatter cornering. The car produces 197kW and 350Nm of torque from its turbocharged Boxer direct injection four-cylinder motor. Its Lineartronic transmission has three modes, with the option of eight-step paddle shifters on the steering column.
