Host sells Ferraris

The new host of Top Gear has consigned 13 cars to Bonhams Goodwood Revival Sale in England on September 12. Leading the series are several of Chris Evans’ highly prized Ferraris, including the rare right-hand-drive 1966 275 GTB/6C Alloy with an estimate of £2.6-£2.9 million (or NZ$6.1-NZ$6.9m), a 1971 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider (£2.3-£2.6m) and a 1964 250 GT/L Lusso (£1.4-£1.8m). Sholto Gilbertson, director of motor cars, says: “Evans is offering 13 incredible cars at the sale, a stable which includes six outstanding Ferraris. In refreshing his collection, others will have the opportunity to enjoy Chris’ fantastic cars. After all, you never ‘own’ a classic car, you enjoy it, look after it and pass it on for others to appreciate.” More than 140 lots of Evans’ automobilia will also be offered with the proceeds being donated to BBC charity, Children In Need. Evans’ other Ferraris going under the hammer are a 1965 275 GTS Spyder, 1963 250 SWB Replica and a 1989 328 GTS. Other cars are a 1949 Jaguar XK120 ‘Alloy’ Roadster, 1967 Jaguar XKSS Lynx, 1936 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Replica, estimate £250,000-350,000, 1970 Mercedes 280SL ‘Pagoda’, estimate £100,000-130,000, 1958 Jaguar XK150 3.4 Fixed Head Coupé, 1964 Daimler Dart Police Car SP250 and a 1983 Fiat 127 Abarth.
