Technician vacancies increase

Job vacancies for technicians and trades workers increased by 0.2 per cent last month, while overall skilled vacancies advertised online dropped by 0.4 per cent in August. Skilled vacancies grew in seven of 10 regions – with the biggest increase in Otago/Southland, which was up by 2.4 per cent. It was followed by Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay on 1.4 per cent. Canterbury grew modestly by 0.7 per cent. Technicians and trades workers posted a 0.9 per cent increase in vacancies during August. This equated to 19 per cent between August 2013 and August 2014. Job advertising site Seek currently has 83 listings for automotive technicians across the country.
