Hybrid for NZ

Posted on 24 July, 2015

Subaru New Zealand has its eyes set on the marque's range of hybrid vehicles, which are currently on sale in Japan.  The latest hybrid Impreza variant is rated at 20.4 km/liter on the Japanese testing cycle, and it joins the XV Crosstrek as the only hybrids in Subaru's lineup. Subaru New Zealand boss Wallis Dumper told Yahoo NZ he wants the technology driving the Impreza Sport Hybrid and XV Hybrid because hybrid and electric vehicles are becomingly increasingly important. “I think we just need to accept the fact that hybrids and electric cars are here to stay, and I think it would be good to have something Green -- even greener than a diesel." Dumper explains this is because: “There some negative connotations coming about diesel from some markets, in respect to pollution. You have to watch that.” However, production constraints in Japan could mean a hybrid lineup won't be on offer until 2017 for Kiwi buyers.

“The United States and Japan have priority, but we will get it, even if we have to wait – I imagine it might be perhaps three years."
