Skilled job vacancies up

Online vacancies for skilled jobs increased by 0.6 per cent in September and were up by 10.1 per cent for the year. According to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the monthly growth in online vacancies was shared across most industry groups. Overall, the information technology industry had the largest monthly rise of 1.7 per cent, closely followed by construction and engineering, which was up by 1.6 per cent. Sales, retail, marketing and advertising vacancies grew by one per cent on August, and opportunities had grown by 10.1 per cent during the 12 months to September. Technician and trade worker vacancies rose by 0.6 per cent on August and were up 15.9 per cent in 12 months to September. The biggest annual regional increases were in Otago and Southland – up by 23.8 per cent, Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough and the West Coast – up 21.4 per cent, and Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay – up 13.0 per cent.
