Singapore to freeze number of private cars

Posted on 25 October, 2017

Singapore has announced it will expand public transport and freeze the number of private cars from next year onward. Singapore already imposes a quota on the number of vehicles sold and the number on its roads. Managing to avoid the massive traffic jams that congest other Asian cities. To enforce this the Land Transport Authority (LTA) makes it costly for those wanting to buy a vehicle. Initially, one must get a “certificate of entitlement”, which is valid for ten years and costs around NZ$53,000, then the purchase of a car can take place.  No timetable has been given for the freeze but LTA said that the government will be spending NZ$29bn over the next five years to improve their transport system.
