Possible ESC exemptions for delayed vehicles

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) are aware of the disruption to vehicle importation from Japan due to the stink bug issue, in particular relating to the new ESC regulations.

An exemption to the new requirements may be possible for used class MA vehicles (over 2000 cc) affected by the stink bug issue, if importers can prove a delay. Importers will need to provide evidence that their vehicles have been affected and cannot be border checked before 1 March. VIA will assist all importers in completing applications for exemption as required. NZTA encourages all inspection providers to plan ahead for when vehicle processing resumes, and ensure standards are maintained. If you find any evidence of insect infestation, phone the 24/7 MPI Exotic Pest and Disease Hotline on 0800 80 99 66 and report it immediately. More info is available on the MPI website.
