The CEOs admitted that saving money was the driving reason behind the joint development. Porsche's Oliver Blume and Audi's Rupert Stadler told the Stuttgarter Zeitung in an interview that it would cost around 30 per cent more for each brand to develop their own EV platforms. Audi is already expecting two sedans and two SUVs, while Porsche could build its first vehicle on the platform at the same factory as the Macan.
The shared platform is is separate from the Mission E, which remains Porsche's current focus. It is also separate from the different outlooks of each auto company - it is to be expected that Porsche would go down the route of sports cars.
