Pony gallops up some speed

The all-new Ford Mustang offers three engines including a standard 300hpV6, the new 310hp EcoBoost and an upgraded 435-horsepower V8. Each powerplant is available with a manual or automatic transmission to make the pony car a “great all-around performer”. The EcoBoost engine planned for this country will have more power than the V6 option. The marque here plans to offer both the EcoBoost and V8 in the all-new model. The addition of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost brings turbocharging to the global line-up and was designed for the Mustang. The geometry of its intake manifold and turbocharger housing has been optimised to provide better breathing and higher output. It includes direct fuel injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing. This EcoBoost is the first Ford engine to use a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger that provides quicker boost response while enabling lower emissions and improved efficiency. The head features an integrated exhaust manifold that separates the inner and outer cylinders into each of the two inlet passages to the turbo. However, the marque says no Mustang line-up is complete without a V8 at its core. The five-litre engine powers into a new generation of upgrades to help it breathe better, especially at higher engine speeds. Many changes are derived from lessons learned in developing the special-edition 2012 Boss 302. Getting air into the cylinders and exhaust out is the key to generating more power and torque. That has been the focus in the developing this V8, which has larger intake and exhaust valves, revised camshafts, stiffer valve springs and a new cylinder-head casting.
