New recall for SUVs

Fiat Chrysler is recalling SUVs in the US for a second time, after it was found an electrical short in the sun visors can cause fires. The recall covers almost 389,000 Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokees from 2011 to 2013. No models in New Zealand are known to be affected, according to the New Zealand Transport Agency recalls database. The models have previously been recalled in 2014, when the marque discovered wires for a mirror light can short and overheat. Fiat says that adjustments to the first recall didn’t work, but that problems in the second recall are only in cars made before September 2, 2012. Repairs have yet to be finalized, but will involve the wiring being secured with a new adhesive, while precautions would be in place to prevent wires coming in contact with “abrasive surfaces”. The recalls follow eight reports of fires after the first repairs. No crashes or injuries have been reported.
