New Corolla hatch revealed

Posted on 09 June, 2015

The new-look Toyota Corolla hatchback has been revealed and is set to go on sale here in July with New Zealand’s most popular car getting two different designs and improved fuel efficiency. The GX and GLX grades adopt a European influence, while the higher-grade Levin SX and Levin ZR take strong design queues from Toyota USA’s Scion-branded Corolla equivalent. “By introducing European and US influenced designs, we can offer the best of both worlds to the New Zealand market,” says Spencer Morris, general manager of product at Toyota NZ. Fuel consumption has improved by 7.6 per cent to 6.1/100km over the outgoing CVT model and emissions are down by 5.9 per cent to 143g/km. In addition to the revised looks, the refreshed Corolla adds a reversing camera and a new audio display screen to GX model. The GLX gains a higher grade touchscreen for the audio and reverse-camera display. The Corolla has been popular with local motorists during its 11 generations and more than 240,290 units have been sold over the past 46 years. Pricing will be announced July 1.
