New BMW i3 and i3s specs out now
BMW has provided some new info into its new i3 and i3s, the company’s premium EV compact. The new BMW i3 and new BMW i3s have a number of design tweaks for a more sporty appearance. The “avant-garde” exterior styling has picked up the iF gold award for product design and the World Car Design of the Year award along with other accolades, and it has now been enhanced by a number of deft design touches that BMW hopes convey the sporting nature of the EV. BMW eDrive electric motor will be available in two output levels, high-voltage battery with large capacity of 33 kWh and an optional range extender engine. 0-100 kmh is reached by the new BMW i3 in 7.3 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 150 kmh. The power and torque of the further developed drive system represent an improvement of up to 40 per cent for the BMW i3. Located low in the vehicle floor, the lithium-ion high-voltage battery provides a reported range of 290 to 300 kilometres. The new BMW i3s incorporates both the front and rear aprons that are model specific. At the front, the bumper inlay as well as the U-shaped surround encircling it have a black finish. The accent in the closed BMW kidney grille is emphasised to give it a larger appearance. The design of the two four-seater models means there is no need for either fixed B-pillars or a transmission tunnel, making the interior more spacious. The rear apron of the new BMW i3s is also styled with individually designed contours. On the new BMW i3s, the roof line accent also sports the same high-gloss black finish as the A-pillars. The BMW Group New Zealand have said that full information on model availability, specification and pricing will be released closer to the local, launch which will begin globally November 2017.
