NAIAS holds special education days

Posted on 20 January, 2017

The North American Auto Show, as part of its range of public events, included a special immersive education experience to children on January 18 and 19. The Education Day has been held every year since 2005 and gives students an in-depth industry tour hosted by experts as well as career-based presentations and collaborative exhibits. Preschool Education Day, hosted by the PNC Foundation, featured a colouring contest, an arts and scraps project, and a parade of cars and teachers. Child-based activities focused on science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and mathematics, and instilled a familiarity with driver safety, with tasks such as identifying road hazards and preparing for incoming weather patterns. For older students, activities included sessions on credit and car financing and Top Fuel World Champion Drag Racer Clay Millican, who shared safe driving tips with participants and displayed his top dragster. Education Day was also a soft recruitment event for older students who are considering what to do with their future. Participants were encouraged to examine the work culture, ethics and recruitment policy of various car companies on show. The student worksheet contained questions such as “What car was awarded 2017 Green Car of the Year?” and “Toyota’s Fuel Cell Hydrogen Tank is made of what?”, emphasising the importance of EV in the industry, as well as practical questions, including “What’s the HP output for the Mercedes V8 cylinder petrol 4.0L Bi-Turbo?” and “What is the compression ratio for LT1 6.2L WT V8?” to persuade students to explore the different displays and events the NAIAS had to offer.
