Audi racing milestone

Posted on 19 July, 2016

The 200th Audi R8 LMS has rolled off the production line. The model was developed by the Audi Sport customer racing team, which has been creating race cars since 2009. The team’s first-generation car saw 136 models shipped worldwide, and a further 64 second-generation models have been shipped since it launched in 2015. Both generations combined have won 28 overall championship titles around the world, as well as 34 class titles and nine overall victories in 24-hour races. Chris Reinke, head of Audi Sport customer racing, says: “When our new model was launched last year, many teams opted for the Audi R8 LMS – and inquiries from many parts of the world continue to be received in large numbers. Our teams and drivers have been battling for victories and championship titles around the globe ever since the new race car’s first full season.” Stephan Winkelmann, managing director of race car developer quattro GmbH, says the company is proud of the milestone. The 200th car will be used by Team “Montaplast by Land-Motorsport,” which is currently leading the ADAC GT Masters with drivers Christopher Mies and Connor De Phillippi.
