Kiwi snaps up hybrid P1

Posted on 21 January, 2015

McLaren has delivered a $1.8 million hypercar with bespoke Kiwi logos that pay tribute to the company’s roots. The hybrid McLaren P1, which makes the 0-100kph dash in 2.8 seconds, has attracted plenty of attention at a showroom in Grey Lynn, Auckland. Luke Neuberger, of McLaren Auckland, which has secured three McLaren P1 hypercars for clients, says the logos were requested by the owner, who wants to stay anonymous. He’s New Zealand citizen living overseas. Just 375 of the flagship P1s will be made. They feature technology pioneered in Formula 1 cars, but only one has kiwis stitched into the seats and painted on the bodywork. McLaren P1s start at $1.7m, but the final cost depends on levels of customisation. It boasts 903bhp and 900Nm of torque thanks to its 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, which is coupled to an electric motor. It can accelerate from 0-300kph in 16.5 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 350kph.
