Jaguar to roll out in-car fuel payments

Posted on 26 March, 2017

A new app developed by Jaguar will see some Kiwi drivers paying for petrol from their car’s touchscreen and receive a receipt directly into their accounting software. Jaguar first rolled out the app in the UK last month, which was developed in partnership with Shell and is available in the latest-generation Jaguar F-PACE, XE, and XF models.  “Car owners will no longer have to queue to make payments, unbuckle young children from safety constraints, brave bad weather, or even remember to bring their wallets, as all payment details are secured stored in the app,” says Jaguar’s general manager for New Zealand, Steve Kenchington. The app will provide a paperless expense management process, with GST receipts electronically stored in the driver’s accounting software. Kenchington says Jaguar is working on developing a range of in-car payment innovations, including parking and drive-through restaurants. When the app arrives in New Zealand, it will potentially be available on a range of service stations which use compatible petrol pump technology. In-car fuel payment is also available in New Zealand via the BPMe smartphone app, which was launched last year. A BP Fuelcard is required to access the service, which relies on the smart phone and internet access to function correctly. Unlike current payment methods such as BPMe, the Jaguar app will use geolocation technology and a cloud-based pre-payment check with the PayPal or Apple Pay wallet. Eventually, the app will be available across the entire Jaguar and Land Rover ranges.
