Jaguar previews electric SUV

Luxury car manufacturer Jaguar will preview its first electric vehicle at the Geneva Auto Show this month. The I-PACE is a performance concept SUV and will be available in 2018. Jaguar’s director of design, Ian Callum, said they’ve “torn up the rule book” with the state-of-the-art electric drive system. “The I-PACE Concept represents the next generation of battery electric vehicle design,” he said. The electric motor and front and rear axles will generate around 400PS and 700Nm of torque. The all-wheel drive I-PACE will achieve 0-100km/h in around four seconds, and squeezes a 500km range from the 90kWh lithium-ion battery. The car can be 80 per cent charged in 90 minutes using 50kW DC charging. Jaguar is taking expressions of interest on their website, with further distribution details to come.
