Honda reveals new 10-speed transmission

Posted on 06 March, 2017

Honda has launched production of its new 10-speed automatic transmission for front-wheel vehicles at its factory in Georgia. The new 10-speed automatic transmission features a low-friction design and will debut in the 2018 Honda Odyssey minivan launching sometime in the U.S. in autumn. The new transmission will be applied to additional light-truck and car models under the Honda and Acura nameplates in the future. "This new 10-speed automatic transmission represents Honda's commitment to provide our customers with products of outstanding performance, and we are honoured to be the global lead plant for production of the 10AT," said Masahiko Kayama, president of the Honda plant in Georgia. The car maker spent $214 million in investment, including $143 million for a new assembly line and production modifications. In total, Honda have invested at least $4.3 billion in American manufacturing plants over the last four years. The Georgia plant was established in 2006 and produces more than 375,000 transmissions for Honda and Acura vehicles annually. Honda is the third car maker to introduce a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford and GM have also developed a 10-speed that has recently been introduced on several U.S. rear-wheel-drive models, including the 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck and the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro sports car.
