Gull effect lands in town

Posted on 19 November, 2014

Gull has opened its latest petrol station on the corner of Bridge Street and Leith Place in Tokoroa. The company believes it will generate what it describes as “the Gull effect” – a localised price drop trend across competitors’ described by the AA as following Gull’s introduction into a new location not previously serviced by it. “We believe the introduction of Gull prompts local stations to drop their prices to compete with us,” says Karl Mischewski, retail development and sustainability manager. “The Gull effect is our positive contribution to lower prices by being a challenger and prompting reaction to our pricing strategy. We’ve seen it happen at other locations and believe Tokoroa will follow suit.” The new site is an unmanned drive-through with regular, diesel and Force 10 grades via four dispensers. Gull has worked in partnership with Raukawa Iwi Development Ltd to develop the facility over the past 12 months. Mischewski adds: “We’ve enjoyed working with Vanessa Eparaima and the team at Raukawa, and are excited to see the fruits of our partnership come to life.”
