Germans eye up Thailand

Volkswagen has applied to set up its first plant in Thailand. The manufacturer is seeking to participate in a government programme offering tax exemptions for carmakers investing at least $232 million in local manufacturing. VW has yet to make a final decision on producing vehicles in Thailand as the exact terms and conditions may still change. But Hans Dieter Poetsch, the marque’s chief financial officer, says the company sees a “strong market opportunity” in south-east Asia.
