Posted on 24 January, 2017

Apple’s global marketing and communication director Musa Tariq has been appointed at Ford Motor Company as vice president and the newly-established chief brand officer. Tariq is also a former senior director of social media and community for Nike, and the first-ever director of social media at luxury brand Burberry. Ford announced in a statement that Tariq will be responsible for “further building and differentiating the company’s Ford brand” as it extends beyond the traditional automotive market into “mobility services”, autonomous driving and EVs. “Our opportunity is to connect with even more consumers and stakeholders – some who never have done business with Ford before – through compelling and culturally relevant marketing and communications. Musa has led transformational work at some of the world’s most admired brands, and he is a leader known for challenging convention,” said Ford president and CEO Mark Fields in a press release. “We’re excited for him to bring his expertise, knowledge and passion to Ford.” Tariq will report jointly to Stephen Odell, Ford executive vice president of global marketing, sales and service, and to Ray Day, Ford vice president of communications. He begins on January 30.
