First Honda restored

The first car ever sold by Honda in the US has been restored, reports Road and Track. The N600 hatchback, dubbed Serial One, was one of the first 50 built in 1967. It arrived in the US in 1969, when Honda brought a small number of the cars to the US to gauge customer demand. The model was fitted with a 0.6-litre, two-cylinder engine that revved to 9,000 revolutions per minute, and could reach speeds of 130kph. The car had been sitting outside Honda restorer Tim Mings’ shop in unrestored condition for nearly 50 years, before he discovered that it was the first Honda brought to the US. “I will never restore another car as important as this one,” he said. Serial One was restored over the course of more than a year by Tim Mings, with Honda documenting the restoration of the car through a collection of short videos.
