Fieldays peek: Volkswagen

Posted on 26 May, 2016

With 20 vehicle manufacturers and companies displaying product at this year’s Fieldays, the four-day event is of great significance to the industry. In its 48th year, more than 125,000 people attended in 2015 and organisers are confident of similar numbers in 2016. Autofile is looking ahead to the June 15-18 agricultural extravaganza and what car exhibitors will be offering. First up, Volkswagen. One of the stars of their show is the Golf GTI 40th edition. The new anniversary Clubsport model is making its public debut at Fieldays, with only seven of the 40 special edition vehicles still available for sale – 33 have already gone from NZ dealerships throughout the country. These GTI anniversary models are only released every five years, with the Edition 40 the most powerful production GTI to date with 265PS/195kW. The turbocharged 2.0 litre TSI engine generates 265hp (195kW) and has an added boost function, providing an extra 10 per cent of acceleration for 10 seconds. Prices start at $63,990. VW will also be showcasing its California Ocean camper, Amaroks with special accessory fit-outs and wraps and an App connect demonstration – technology found on Golf Hatch, Passat, Tiguan and most Polo. With the NZ Olympic Edition Golf Wagon and Golf R Wagon also on show and much more, Volkswagen will be sure to catch the eye at Fieldays 2016.
